Before You Travel

Your first Umrah starts weeks before you board the flight. Make sure your passport has at least six months' validity, your Umrah visa and documents are confirmed with our team, and you've read through our packing checklist so nothing is left to the last minute.

Understanding Ihram & Miqat

Ihram is the sacred state a pilgrim enters before performing Umrah, marked by specific clothing for men (two unstitched white sheets) and modest, simple clothing for women (no face-covering or gloves required in Ihram, though many women choose to cover for other reasons). You enter Ihram at or before the Miqat — the boundary point for your route. Your Diyanat Travels group leader will guide you on exactly when and where to enter Ihram based on your flight route.

What Happens on Arrival

After landing in Saudi Arabia, our team handles your transfer from the airport to your Makkah or Madinah hotel as part of your package. Immigration can take time during peak season, so pack patience along with your documents. Once you've checked in and rested, you'll be ready for your first Umrah.

Performing Umrah — the Basic Steps

• Tawaf: Circling the Kaaba seven times, starting and ending at the Black Stone corner.
• Sa'i: Walking seven times between the hills of Safa and Marwah, commemorating Hajira's search for water.
• Halq or Taqsir: Men shave the head or trim the hair; women trim a small portion of their hair, marking the completion of Umrah.

Your group guide will walk you through each step in person — this is a general overview, not a substitute for guidance from a qualified scholar on the specific rulings that apply to your situation.

Common First-Timer Mistakes

• Overpacking — you'll be carrying your own bags through airports and hotel lobbies.
• Not drinking enough Zamzam water and fluids, especially in Makkah's heat.
• Rushing Tawaf and Sa'i instead of pacing yourself, particularly in crowded periods.
• Losing track of the group — always know your hotel name and your Diyanat Travels contact's WhatsApp number.
