Sharing vs Private Umrah Transport

During Umrah you'll travel between the airport, Makkah and Madinah, and to Ziyarat sites. Most packages include transport, but you can usually choose between sharing (group) transport and private transport. Here's how they compare.

The Journeys You'll Make

• Airport to hotel: Jeddah airport to Makkah, or Madinah airport to your Madinah hotel
• Intercity: Makkah to Madinah (or the other way round)
• Ziyarat: guided visits to important sites in Makkah and Madinah
• Return: hotel to airport for your flight home

Sharing Transport

Sharing transport means travelling with other pilgrims in a group vehicle or coach.

• Pros: lowest cost, usually included in the package, sociable, and the group is guided together.
• Cons: fixed timings, possible waiting for other passengers, and less space for luggage.
• Best for: solo travellers, couples and budget-conscious groups.

Private Transport

Private transport means a vehicle just for your family or group.

• Pros: you travel on your own timetable, there's more space for luggage and wheelchairs, and it's easier with children and elderly parents.
• Cons: extra cost on top of the package.
• Best for: families, elderly pilgrims, travellers with lots of luggage, and groups who want flexibility.

Which Should You Choose?

• Solo or couple on a budget: sharing transport.
• Family with young children: private transport, at least for the airport and intercity journeys.
• Elderly parents or wheelchair users: private transport is strongly recommended. See our guide for elderly pilgrims.
